Jeff B White

Four years after the events of Blush Born, the Silvarii race is fading and turning to dust as a strange illness spreads throughout their home. Saga Gazette must seek out the Pixxels of Power in order to restore the Pure Melody of the world.

As a Silvarii, Saga believes in the Silver Way. She is forced to journey on this quest with Jethran Frye, the person her people blame for the illness. To make matters worse, they are joined by Stanza Prose, a criminally perfect Colorista girl who steals Saga’s heart despite being a heretical hippie. Saga must face her own prejudices and learn that the traditions she has been taught to hold sacred may be exactly what is killing her people.

Returning Home

Accompanied by Martier Rowe, Fable must return to Silvarii Hollow and lead the same people who once cast him out. When members of the former Gray Order return and begin harvesting the dust of the Silvarii in an attempt to stain the world and return everything to Gray, Fable decides to teach his people a new kind of power as they form a glittery army prepared to defend themselves against faces from the past.

The Truth of Harmony

Along the way, the travelers uncover the buried histories that have long divided the races of their world. Upon meeting each Pixxel, Jethran comes face to face with the reality of his own existence, uncovering secrets that are older than Evenhere itself.

The Memoir Behind the Myth

A Faded Quest is the second installment of The Shards of Color Trilogy. This quest adventure continues the epic fantasy of Blush Born with a high-tech twist. It is a story of the defiant determination of the queer experience and an allegory for the AIDS epidemic, using the author’s own experience living with HIV to deepen the narrative.

A Faded Quest explores the Harmony that can be found when we let go of the beliefs we were taught to hold sacred and allow the songs of others to join the Melody.

Who Is Saga Gazette?

When I created Saga Gazette, she was meant for one scene. But Saga demanded more. I never really thought of Saga as being anything related to me or my life because she was born on the pages of Evenhere.

But Saga’s journey is about interrogating the beliefs that were programmed into her, beliefs that defined her reality as she understood it. In so many ways, my own journey has been about that exact thing. I have had to constantly question and form new understandings of myself and of the life that I’ve been given. I have spent years forging new traditions in how I interact with the world around me and the people in it.

Saga forces the people of her world to step back and look at the effect they have on the world. She demands that they listen to what they say and begs them to change what they do so that the world can move forward and be better because of it.

I thought Saga had nothing to do with me. But Saga may have more to do with me than any other character. Saga is the defiant spirit inside me that refuses to remain hidden in the background. She is the part of me that refuses to accept the easy answer. The part that needs to know what we’re doing, demands to know how we’re getting it done and when it’s going to change, and asks who it’s going to affect.

Saga is my why. Because it was never about just Jethran.

Saga fought her way to the front because she demanded to be seen, first on the page and eventually in me. She is the divine feminine that lives inside me and that lives inside all of us.

She is the voice that questions the stories we have been taught, the things we have inherited, and the lies we have mistaken for truth simply because they were handed to us that way. She is the voice that asks us to look again and to listen harder so that we can choose more wisely. And when the world tells us that questioning everything will leave us without answers, Saga reminds us that the journey toward finding yourself begins with questioning yourself.

You found your colors alongside Jethran Frye in Blush Born.

Now find your voice alongside Saga Gazette in an epic modern fairy tale that defies tradition and shatters genre.
